We invite applications for a laboratory engineer position to work in the HistoCore at Biomedicum. The position will be based at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, which offers a collegial, international, and dynamic research environment. Biomedicum's HistoCore, led by Prof. Camilla Svensson, provides consultation, method development, and practical services to researchers at Karolinska Institutet. Your mission

We are looking for a motivated individual interested in working side by side with the HistoCore staff, assisting with routine tasks as well as tailoring services to meet customer needs and performing other duties within the HistoCore.


Your tasks at HistoCore will include:

  • Tissue preparation and embedding
  • Sectioning of tissue
  • Histological staining
  • Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence
  • Digital image analysis and quantification
  • Protocol optimization and troubleshooting
  • Laboratory organization and maintenance
  • Collaboration with research groups
  • Conducting introductions/training for new users of the core facility's equipment
  • Working on matters related to environmental safety, biosafety, and risk assessments 

Your profile

It is particularly advantageous if the applicant has demonstrated several years of laboratory experience focusing on tissue processing for histological, antibody-based, and RNA-based analysis. While fluency in Swedish is beneficial, it is essential that you are fluent in both spoken and written English. The successful candidate will be a team player, a good communicator, well-organized, and enjoy interactions with researchers and students. You should possess a strong sense of responsibility, be goal-oriented, and have the capacity and flexibility to solve daily challenges. You are service-minded and eager to contribute to the success of other researchers. It is advantageous if you have experience in method implementation and protocol development, particularly related to tissue processing and analysis, and you are keen to learn more.
