The Center of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH) is a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and Makerere University in Uganda. The Center was founded in 2021 from a holistic perspective on health. Since then, we have been contributing to research and equitable partnerships in various fields. Our work builds on over 20 years of previous collaboration that has contributed to important research findings in the broad field of health. Together we develop teaching, research and capacity building projects. CESH has developed digital tools, Tools for Action, for work on sustainable health.The position will be in the research group Global Child Health and Sustainable Development at the Department of Global Public Health.
The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Research at the department is focused on how different societal and individual factors affect population health, and to develop and evaluate structural and individual-oriented interventions. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department has 12 research groups, about 110 PhD students and about 140 employees.
The job tasks are as following:
Projects are both built on research and capacity and involve collaboration with partners in a range of countries including Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, and may involve travel.
A requirement is to have a master’s degree in the field of health or within another relevant field that the employer assesses as relevant. Previous experience of studying and/or working in low-income countries is a requirement and you also must have a very good skills of the English language, written and spoken. A merit requirement is to have previous experience from a university/college in an international environment, and if you have worked with similar tasks it is also highly meritorious.
We are looking for someone with a strong interest and experience in global health issues, sustainable health and development, who is highly organized and able to work towards short and long-term deadlines. You need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as experience in planning and coordinating meetings and projects. Furthermore, you need to have good coordination and communication skills in projects and deliverables. Strong emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
