The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.
Our laboratory is located at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, http://www.scilifelab.se/) in the Karolinska Institute campus. SciLifeLab is equiped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and core facilities, and is home to one of the largest sequencing cluster in Europe.
Our group combines experimental and computational work, and aims to develop and apply novel genome-wide techniques to address fundamental biological questions with medical implications. We are especially interested in how subtle variations in gene expression can lead to differential cellular phenotypes and are passionate about RNA biology (http://pelechanolab.com/).
You will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment and combine the development of state-of-the art genome-wide approaches with the molecular dissection of fundamental biological problems.
Are you interested in unravelling the crosstalk between the proteome and the metabolome? Would you like to combine the use of cutting-edge omics technologies with synthetic biology and biochemistry? Come and join us at SciLifeLab.
The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project leaded by Dr. Ilaria Piazza. The Piazza laboratory (Piazza Lab) uses mass spectrometry-based approaches to study protein interactions in cell and tissues integrating proteomics and metabolomics data. The Piazza laboratory is based both at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (SciLifeLab) and at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin.
The available postdoctoral position concerns developing and applying novel genetic and biochemistry approaches to study the crosstalk between gene expression and the metabolome. The candidate will work in the context of an ERC project (porteoRAGE) led by Dr. Piazza. The recruited candidate will focus on engineering massive collections of S. cerevisiae strains to enable the study of the allosteric regulation of gene expression. The candidate will the phenotypic information derived from such collection to generate and validate hypothesis. The candidate will integrate different experimental and computational approaches for the completion of the project, including genomics, yeast genetics, high-throughput biology approaches and bioinformatics. The candidate will perform original research in synthetic biology, genomic, proteomics and structural biology, and acquire the required experimental and computational skills necessary for the completion of the project.
The candidate is expected to communicate the scientific results by writing up scientific papers and attending scientific meetings. The ideal candidate will participate in the general duties of the team and effectively communicate with scientists of very diverse backgrounds in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment.
