At the Division of Insurance Medicine, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, we conduct research about different aspects of sickness absence, health, work and life situation. The Principal Researcher will have the opportunity to work close to top researchers within the sickness absence field and contribute to high-quality research at the international level. The research questions are complex and require a great deal of interdisciplinarity and people with different educational backgrounds are part of the project. We also have a wide collaboration with other researchers in Sweden and internationally.
We are looking for a Principal Researcher to lead multiple research projects focusing on mental health, morbidity, sick leave, and labor market marginalization. One research project involves research on sickness absence due to depression or anxiety in relation to multi-morbidity, medical treatment, and labor market outcomes. Another project focuses on the interaction between mental ill-health, work- and family-related factors, hazardous alcohol use, and sick leave due to alcohol use disorder in the working population. The studies are built on register and survey data. Advanced statistical methods will be used to analyze the data.
The Principal Researcher will lead and conduct research projects within the field of Insurance Medicine and Public Health Epidemiology, independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include leading and conducting epidemiological studies; including data management, analysis, and manuscript writing, teaching and supervising students and junior researchers, collaborating with national and international partners and applying for research funding. The work also includes administrative tasks, such as project management and documentation, as well as participation in science outreach, i.e. disseminating knowledge and engaging outside academia.
The ideal candidate will work independently and take responsibility for writing and completing scientific manuscripts, secure funding for research projects, and supervise and mentoring other researchers, statisticians and research students in these tasks. The candidate will also contribute to the development of the research group through methodological development, supervision, and collaboration within the research group, Karolinska Institutet and internationally.
The Principal Researcher possesses extensive experience in epidemiological analysis of microdata from registers and survey data, of international collaboration and publishing research articles in internationally recognized scientific journals. Proficiency in both oral and written English in communication is a prerequisite.
Furthermore, the candidate must have knowledge of survey and register-based research, public health epidemiology, alcohol research, insurance medicine, and psychiatric epidemiology. To be successful the candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work independently, and as part of a team. Experience in project and work management is also a requirement.
To be eligible for employment as a Principal Researcher, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise. The applicant must also be a Research Leader and have established their own line of research. The applicant should furthermore have shown documented, high-quality scientific production, particularly in the last six years and have the potential to energetically drive their research forward as well as be recognized nationally and internationally. The applicant should also have obtained good, long-term and preferably external funding and have the potential to obtain further external funding. The applicant should have shown teaching and supervision experience and demonstrated good leadership qualities.
