Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Applications are invited for the postdoctoral positions in the group of Joanna Rorbach at the Division of Molecular Metabolism, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.

Division of Molecular Metabolism

The Division of Molecular Metabolism (http://ki.se/en/mbb/research-divisionof-molecular-metabolism, http://ki.se/en/mbb), is located in Biomedicum, Solna campus of Karolinska Institutet. The research at the division aims at understanding the regulation of mitochondrial function and the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease. The current research encompasses biochemical and genetic studies of patients with inherited diseases as well as basic scientific approaches to understand the regulation of mtDNA expression and other aspects of mitochondrial metabolism.

The Division of Molecular Metabolism offers an outstanding research environment and a close interaction between basic science, clinical science and diagnostics at the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases (CMMS) at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Excellent access to the most advanced resources in structural, molecular and cell biology is available at the Institute and at the national core facilities at the Science for Life Laboratory (https://www.scilifelab.se).

Your mission

Mitochondria are sub-cellular organelles essential for eukaryotic cell function, and their dysfunction has been implicated in a variety of hereditary diseases, ageing, cancer and immunity. The correct expression of mitochondrial DNA is essential for mitochondrial function. The aim of studies in Rorbach group is to identify the pathways and factors important to human diseases and improve our understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of mitochondrial function. We employ diverse model systems and multidisciplinary approaches to address these questions, including cryo-EM, high-throughput gene targeting, proteomics and RNASeq-based ribosome profiling. For future information, visit https://molmet.ki.se/rorbach or contact Dr Joanna Rorbach, e-mail: Joanna.rorbach@ki.se.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Enthusiastic and motivated applicants should have a strong background in structural and/or molecular biology.

Specific experience in mitochondrial biology is an advantage, given the nature of the research, but is not a requirement.

The successful applicant should be knowledgeable of biological advancements, demonstrate a promising publication record, and have a rigorous scientific approach.

The candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team and collaborative settings, as our research group collaborates with several international laboratories.
