Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a national resource of unique technologies and expertise available to life scientists, closely intertwined with our community of researchers in areas such as biomedicine, ecology and evolution. We bring scientists together across traditional boundaries and foster collaborations with industry, health care, public research organizations and international partners. SciLifeLab is assigned by the Swedish government to operate national infrastructure, to provide cutting- edge life science technologies and -expertise to Swedish researchers and hosts national research programs such as the Data-Driven Life Sciences (DDLS). SciLifeLab has established thematic research areas that link the technology infrastructure, the research community and the DDLS program. This position is within the SciLifeLab Precision Medicine and Diagnostics theme and the employment is hosted at the Department of Oncology and Pathology, Karolinska Institutet (KI).
We are looking for a Research Infrastructure Specialist to help us establish services and run projects to build the precision medicine capability of SciLifeLab and at the novel technology innovation cluster for Precision Medicine. This innovation cluster is shared between SciLifeLab, KI and Karolinska University Hospital (KS) and is to play a national role in support for Precision Medicine projects. The successful candidate is to coordinate wet lab and support data services for precision medicine projects together with SciLifeLab technology platforms and Data Center, to engage with research communities and users locally, nationally and internationally.

Your mission

We are looking for a high-profile and dedicated technology expert to increase access to SciLifeLab’s technology platforms for clinical research. Your mission will be to establish new operational processes to link our technology platforms to clinical research projects and trials. This will require an understanding of clinical needs and realities and an ability to work closely with health care professionals. Your mission is to enable sample and data flows to the technology platforms, including the data center, to ensure high-quality molecular data generation is delivered within needed timeframes. With SciLifeLab, these form the partners of the Swedish node of the large European TEF Health initiative. For your part of the project, the mission will be to establish access to the physical testing facility to be offered to academia and SMEs also internationally.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish degree of doctor. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate at least three years of experience in research and/or core facility services in a field relevant to precision medicine, experience of SciLifeLab technology platforms and knowledge of clinical studies.
  • The applicant must also have demonstrated technology and methods development expertise, preferably within multi-modal data generation, experience from service facilities, clinical research and from handling of human samples.
  • Finally, the applicant must have prior experience leading and/or coordinating projects on a national level, as SciLifeLab supports researchers across Sweden.

  • It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown proficiency working in large-scale EU projects previously, as TEF Health has over 50 partners and the services will be offered to all of Europe.

  • We are looking for a person with profound knowledge and passion towards clinical research with a focus on precision medicine and clinical trial development.

  • Understanding the challenges of precision medicine on timely delivery of samples and data as well as multi-modal data generation for clinical needs is highly valued.
  • We place great emphasis on personal qualities, and the successful applicant will need to feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills as well as be organized and independent to formulate new ideas and critically examine the result.
  • Experience in training personnel and organizing workshops within the area of precision medicine will be highly valued as part of the development of SciLifeLab.
  • The candidate needs to have good writing and oral skills in English and knowledge of Swedish.
