Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institute. At IMM we conduct advanced research and education in environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology and biostatistics with a focus on clarifying how environmental and lifestyle factors affect human health. The postdoc position will be hosted at the Unit of Biochemical Toxicology at IMM. The research at the unit aims at understanding the connection between exposure to chemicals and complex negative health effects, such as cancer and effects caused by endocrine disruption. One of our areas of focus is to develop novel methodologies for health risk assessment of chemicals that incorporate the latest scientific developments and meet the needs of decision makers.

Your mission

This postdoc position will focus on the development of novel approaches to assessment and identification of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that maximize the use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and meet regulatory needs. The work will be anchored in Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) methodology and the postdoctoral researcher will develop and use AOPs and AOP networks to organize, integrate and interpret toxicological (in silico, in vitro, in vivo) and epidemiological data relevant for regulatory assessment of EDCs. The postdoctoral researcher will also develop and apply systematic methods for Weight of Evidence (WoE) assessment to review and evaluate toxicological and epidemiological data. You will be expected to contribute to planning and carrying out case studies, as well as writing scientific articles. The position does not entail any practical laboratory work.

Your profile

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a documented background in research related to endocrine disruption in humans and experience with reviewing and evaluating toxicological and epidemiological data. A solid knowledge of endocrine disrupting chemicals, as well as mechanisms and effects on the endocrine system is required. Experience with development or application of the AOP framework is also required, and experience with systematic review methodology and WoE assessment is highly meritorious. Basic understanding of regulatory health risk assessment of chemicals and assessment of EDCs is also desired.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

For this position, you need to be able to collaborate and work effectively in a team, as well as demonstrate strong communication skills in both written and spoken English
