Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a laboratory manager with a PhD to join our highly accomplished team. We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier.

Your mission

The Mjösberg group studies the differentiation, regulation, and function of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in humans, and how these cells contribute to pathology in mucosal tissues such as the gut and airways (Lung and Allergy Unit at MedH). The studies are translational and involve advanced basic molecular and cellular immunological investigations of valuable human tissue samples to discover new disease mechanisms, therapeutic targets, and biomarkers. The group is internationally recognized in the field through several high-profile publications in recent years (Cell Res 2021, Sci Imm 2022, Cell Rep Med, 2023 etc.).

The main responsibilities for the laboratory manager will be to support the group’s work through organizational, administrative (approx. 20%), and research-related (approx. 80%) activities. The research-related tasks include interaction with our clinical collaborators, collection and processing of lymphocytes from various types of fresh human tissues, including dissection of specific tissue structures. The applicant will also perform flow cytometric and spectral analysis (BD Symphony and Cytec Aurora) and sorting (BD FACSAria and SONY sorter). Other experimental methods will also be used. The administrative tasks will relate to maintaining a good laboratory environment, ordering, preparing documentation for various types of applications and permits, organizing databases and datasets. The applicant will also manage the group’s social media platforms and website. It is expected that the applicant participates in project meetings, supervises students and other researchers if necessary, and contributes to other common lab duties.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a PhD in biomedicine, medicine, or immunology. Applicants who have not completed their PhD by the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant’s main supervisor, director, or equivalent.

You should be well acquainted with tissue processing, isolation, and culture of primary cells.

Experience in managing datasets and databases is required, as well as skills in multidimensional (>20 parameters) flow cytometric analysis and sorting.

To succeed in this role, you should be self-motivated and eager to learn and take on new tasks in a dynamic research environment. You are expected to have good communication skills and a proven ability to interact effectively and work productively in an interdisciplinary team. Furthermore, you should have excellent organizational skills, take on a leadership role when needed, be accurate and flexible, and have the ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Fluency in English is required, and you should have basic skills and a willingness to learn Swedish.
