The Schultzberg lab addresses fundamental questions in neuroinflammation with the aim to find new treatment targets in Alzheimer’s disease. Our studies build upon in vivo and in vitro models as well as on analysis of human clinical samples, in order to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms for resolving neuroinflammation and regaining homeostasis in the brain. Resolution of inflammation in the brain is a relatively new research field and our studies aim to provide knowledge on the signals for resolving inflammation in the brain and whether stimulation or modulation of these is beneficial for neuronal functioning and eventually as a potential target for the treatment of patients. The Schultzberg Lab is collaborating closely with the Li group, which is focussed on addressing the developmental and regenerative potential of diverse neural stem and progenitor cells during neurodevelopment, degeneration and regeneration, by using cutting-edge single-cell and spatial omics.
The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 85 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied.
A postdoctoral position (scholarship) is now open in projects devoted to exploring the role of inflammation and its resolution in the brain, with particular attention to Alzheimer’s disease.
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results.
The applicant should be a highly motivated individual who can collaborate and function well in a team. We are looking for a person who holds a PhD and has an interest in neuroscience/neuroinflammation, and with skills preferably in more than one of the following areas: work with human iPS cells especially differentiation to microglia, lipidomics, histological methods including quantification of markers during mouse brain development, and experience of mouse and rat animal work including treatments and dissection and cryosectioning of embryonic and postnatal tissues. Appropriate certificate for mouse animal work (FELASA C or equivalent) is required.
Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Stockholm (Solna)
Six months scholarship with the possibility of extension. The amount is tax free and it is set for six months, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
