Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Division

The Wilhelm Lab studies childhood CNS and PNS tumors using a wide range of cutting-edge techniques, including transgenic models, patient-derived iPS models, and organoids, as well as cellular, molecular, biochemical, and genomic analytical methods to explore the molecular mechanisms that regulate tumor progression. This project is specifically aimed at advancing precision cancer medicine for childhood brain tumors. We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join our lab.

The Wilhelm Lab is located in the Biomedicum building at Karolinska Institutet, within a strong medical research environment that offers extensive opportunities for interaction and support. More details about the lab can be found https://ki.se/en/people/margareta-wilhelm

Duties

We are focused on understanding the crosstalk between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment, and how these interactions initiate and drive tumor development. Our goal is to identify vulnerabilities that can be targeted for precision cancer medicine approaches. The postdoctoral candidate will lead a project aimed at identifying the early genetic and epigenetic events that contribute to tumor initiation and progression. Additionally, the candidate will play a key role in the lab’s drug discovery program.

Qualifications of the Applicant

  • Passionate about cancer research and has a strong background in tumor biology, stem cell biology, or drug discovery, as demonstrated by a solid publication record, including at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication
  • Experience with brain tumor models or human organoid culture systems
  • Proficiency in large-scale bioinformatics analysis and programming skills in at least one statistical computing software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB)
  • Self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and can collaborate effectively and contribute productively within a team
  • Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
