At the Division of Nursing at NVS, our vision is to contribute decisively to improving people's health through research, education and interprofessional cooperation with a scientific basis in nursing. Education is conducted at basic level (nursing program), advanced level (specialist nursing programs), some freestanding and elective courses and at postgraduate level. The Division of Nursing at NVS is a dynamic and creative educational and research environment, which is located at Campus Flemingsberg in southern Stockholm. The Division has about 100 employees, about 20 registered doctoral students and contains seven research groups with interdisciplinary research in nursing that has been highly ranked internationally in recent years.

Description of the subject area

Nursing is the main subject area for the nursing programs at basic and advanced level. The scientific discipline of nursing is based on humanistic values and on ethics of caring, and is founded on the experiences, reactions and needs of human beings throughout their lives. Knowledge in the main subject area is applied/practiced at individual, group and community level and considers, for example, gender and socio-cultural perspectives in a global society.

Your mission

This position is part of an investment with the aim of increasing the long-term conditions for a strong, close and mutually enriching integration between education, research and healthcare practice, at different levels. You are expected to take great responsibility for leading the development of the educational activities to ensure high-quality research-tied education as well as to advance the division's research anchored to your own internationally recognized nursing research.

In this position, you will be responsible for linking education to research and representing the main subject area nursing at KI. In addition to being active in education as a teacher and examiner, you will be involved in leading educational development. We are looking for you who feel a strong commitment to be part of our development of education and research in the main subject area ​​nursing. The assignment includes having management assignments and administrative tasks to secure the quality of the education and create sustainable structures for research and postgraduate training, as well as to collaborate between academia and healthcare. The duties are designed and adapted based on the applicant's competence and interests, and the needs of the Division of Nursing and may change over time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills and very good scientific skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

You must have a degree in nursing or equivalent education in the main subject area of nursing. It is also required that you in competition have received external research grants as main applicant.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

As the teaching is mainly conducted and the examination takes place in Swedish, you must have good knowledge and skills in the Swedish language (C1 level according to the common European reference scale GERS)

Assessment criteria

We are looking for you who have an internationally leading line of research in nursing, experience in international collaboration as well as experience in leading educational activities and conducting educational development work/research and in leading and coordinating both in education and research.

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (3), leadership, and collaboration skills (2) and clinical skills (1).

For employment as Professor at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

  • Experience and competence in leading and coordinating academic and clinical nursing
  • Experience and proficiency in developing the main subject area of ​​nursing
  • Experience as main subject coordinator in nursing education

  • Specialist nursing degree
