Do you want to contribute to leading research on human reproduction after childhood cancer?

If you do, the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health is the place that you are looking for! Our department consists of six divisions with approximately forty research groups, conducting leading education and research with a global impact on women’s and children’s health. Research on human reproduction and regenerative medicine are core interests of our department, which vision aligns with Karolinska Institutet's mission of advancing medical knowledge through innovative basic research, in one of the world's leading hubs for medical research.

Your mission

In this project, you will investigate the long-term sociodemographic, health, and fertility outcomes of childhood cancer survivors, along with the risk factors for poor outcomes. Using national register data, you will assess the achievement of adulthood milestones (such as education, employment, and relationships), the prevalence of fertility issues, and the incidence of long-term adverse health effects. Your research aims to identify high-risk individuals and support targeted interventions, including gamete preservation, hormonal insufficiency monitoring, and psychological or psychosexual support. You will be supervised by Professor Kirsi Jahnukainen, the lead researcher of this project.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to join our research team. The ideal candidate will have a critical mind and a passion for advancing scientific knowledge. The successful candidate will actively engage in scientific discussions, fostering a collaborative environment with other team members. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves not only contributing to cutting-edge research but also sharing insights and discoveries with colleagues. The ability to supervise and mentor master’s and Ph.D. students is a key aspect of this position, offering an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to contribute to their academic growth and the development of emerging researchers. If you are a dedicated researcher committed to excellence, innovation, and collaboration, we invite you to apply and be part of our scientific journey.

We are looking for a candidate with the following set of skills:

  • Experience in studies on the clinical late effects of childhood cancer.
  • Expertise in establishing and maintaining large datasets.
  • Proficiency in statistical analyses of large clinical datasets using the statistical program R.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating with national registers, including the official processes of applying for, receiving, and organizing national register data.
  • Experience in analyzing national register data and writing and publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
