The Stagkourakis lab, located in state-of-the-art facilities at Karolinska Institutet and the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm, is opening its doors in September of 2024. The Stagkourakis lab operates in the field of systems neuroscience. Our goal is to generate a better understanding of how neural circuits operate and guide behavioral expressions in living animals, with the ultimate purpose of generating fundamental improvements and modernizing treatments of neuropsychiatric disorders. Primary experimental techniques utilized by the lab include but are not limited to: brain slice imaging and electrophysiology, silicon probe electrophysiology, miniscope and 2P microscopy, application of the diverse AAV and rabies virus systems neuroscience toolkit, and animal behavior.

Your profile

To be employed for this position one needs a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, physics, computer science or a related field. It is considered an advantage if you have already completed your Master’s degree. Expertise in programming (Python or Matlab) is essential, and experience in any of the following techniques will be positively considered: mouse behavior tests, experience in advanced data analysis, electrophysiology and/or imaging techniques. Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a requirement.

In the Stagkourakis lab, alongside comprehensive on-the-job training in scientific and technical skills, we will mentor the individual in this role in various professional aspects, including writing research proposals and papers, analyzing and presenting data, giving talks, and more. The research assistant will also benefit from exposure to the vibrant Neuroscience community at Karolinska, and will receive support of outstanding technical teams at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab on the application of various methodologies.
