This research position is located in Senior Lecturer Pauliina Damdimopoulou's research group at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBSGYN) within the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention, and Technology. Research and education within OBSGYN cover various aspects of women's reproductive health, including ovarian biology, endometrial receptivity, fertility preservation measures, reproductive toxicology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, and fetal medicine. We provide a dynamic environment at the forefront of reproductive toxicological research, fostering innovation and exploration within the field.

Your mission

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 5years for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

You will work within the ERC-funded project SAFER, utilizing advanced human primary cell-based in vitro models and bioinformatic analyses. Your duties will include supervising students at all levels of their academic careers, designing and conducting bioinformatic analyses of multi-omic single-cell datasets using R/Phyton and Linux/Shell, and making significant contributions to experiment design using stem cell-based embryo models in the laboratory. You will conduct both in silico and in vitro experiments, analyse and integrate findings from advanced analyses of large datasets for manuscripts, reports, and presentations, and handle necessary licensing work. Your primary objective will be to develop innovative cell-based assays for female reproductive toxicity in vitro.

Eligibility requirements

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.

Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist. 

Special grounds refer to:

  • parental leave,
  • positions of trust in trade union organizations
  • mandatory service in the total defense forces
  • long-term illness

Ground, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation.

We are seeking a motivated, goal-driven candidate who has demonstrated skills in handling high-throughput data and proficiency in scripting languages such as R, as well as experience with Linux/Shell environments. Wet lab skills, including the handling of human clinical samples, cell culture, and /or molecular biology methods focused on nucleic acid analyses, are particularly advantageous. Additionally, experience in designing experiments and pipelines, independently driving projects, research administration, grant writing, and supervising students will be highly valued.

An Assistant Professor employed in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a shall be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet and is assessed to be suitable for such employment in accordance with the assessment criteria that KI has decided should be applied when being promoted to Senior Lecturer. The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer. Current assessment criteria is found here. Such promotion results in a permanent position as Senior Lecturer.
