Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We invite applications for a Research Assistant position in the research group of Professor Magnus Ingelman-Sundberg, within the Section of Pharmacogenetics.

This position is housed in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, known for its collegial, international, and dynamic research environment. Our group specializes in precision drug therapy, utilizing an in vivo-like spheroid system that mimics the transcriptional, proteomic, metabolomic, and functional properties of donor livers. Our current research focuses on the use of our 3D liver spheroid system for analyses of siRNA stability, metabolism and action for use  to treat Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH) and for analysing the role of the FXN gene and CYP2C19 overexpression for creating oxidative mitochondrial stress of importance for development of e.g. ataxia. Additionally, we are identifying new genetic variants of e.g. CYP2C19 that can predict drug metabolism rates and drug-induced hepatotoxicity.

Your mission

We are looking for a motivated individual interested in contributing to and interacting with a dynamic team of approximately six researchers. Your primary responsibilities will include participating in the following activities:

  • Investigating the stability and metabolism of different siRNA constructs aimed at e.g. intervening with FXN regulated pathways and analyses of mechanism for increase mitochondrial oxidative stress upon silencing of the FXN gene.
  • Expressing genetic variants that are important for drug metabolism and analyzing their properties with respect to drug metabolism.
  • Screen for siRNA molecules silencing of liver fibrosis development in the spheroid system

Your profile

The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills, well-organized, and enjoy interacting with researchers and students.

Previous experience with heterologus expression in cell or bacterial systems is required. Furthermore previous work with variants of the CYP2C19 gene and enzyme is of high merit.

While knowledge of the Swedish language is advantageous, fluency in both oral and written English is essential.
