Research Specialist in Aging Research with a focus on Psychiatric Epidemiology

Your mission

The Research Specialist will be responsible for driving studies in the field of geriatric and psychiatric epidemiology with a major focus on depression. The candidate is expected to contribute to research areas covering risk factors across the life course, geographical differences in depression, and consequences of depression. Duties include generating hypotheses, running statistical analyses of longitudinal data, collaborating with co-authors, and writing research articles as a lead and senior author. Teaching and supervision may also be part of the role.

The person appointed to this position will additionally play a central role in the National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) team, responsible for activities promoting NEAR research results and increasing the infrastructure’s visibility to the national and international scientific community, as well as the general public. NEAR is a collaborative initiative between Karolinska Institutet and seven other Swedish universities. Together, we have developed a national infrastructure with the ultimate goal of facilitating aging research in Sweden, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing scientific quality and impact. NEAR comprises 15 databases originating from longitudinal cohort studies located across different geographical areas in Sweden.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

• A PhD in geriatric and psychiatric epidemiology.
• Documented experience and deep knowledge of psychiatric epidemiology, especially depression in older adults.
• Experience supervising students.
• Experience teaching university-level courses.
• Excellent language skills in English and Swedish. 

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

• Experience in presenting and moderating at national and international meetings and/or conferences.
• Experience summarizing research and developing targeted communication materials.
• Adapt research texts and information, both written and oral, for multiple audiences.
• Experience in working with larger research infrastructures.
