The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.
The Research Specialist will be responsible for driving studies in the field of geriatric and psychiatric epidemiology with a major focus on depression. The candidate is expected to contribute to research areas covering risk factors across the life course, geographical differences in depression, and consequences of depression. Duties include generating hypotheses, running statistical analyses of longitudinal data, collaborating with co-authors, and writing research articles as a lead and senior author. Teaching and supervision may also be part of the role.
The person appointed to this position will additionally play a central role in the National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) team, responsible for activities promoting NEAR research results and increasing the infrastructure’s visibility to the national and international scientific community, as well as the general public. NEAR is a collaborative initiative between Karolinska Institutet and seven other Swedish universities. Together, we have developed a national infrastructure with the ultimate goal of facilitating aging research in Sweden, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing scientific quality and impact. NEAR comprises 15 databases originating from longitudinal cohort studies located across different geographical areas in Sweden.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
