The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and applied biostatistics group). The research group of aging epidemiology is involved in a wide variety of research projects, including molecular and genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, as well as twin and family studies. The group contains about 20 people - from professor to PhD- and master students - with several different PI´s collaborating on many research topics within aging. Research interests are biological aging, frailty, genetics of dementia, polypharmacy in the old and many more.

Your mission

This research specialist will be responsible for conducting research studies in the areas of molecular and genetic aging epidemiology as well as geriatric pharmacoepidemiology. This includes data processing, data analysis and writing scientific text. You will contribute to starting new studies, generating new data and developing new methods. You will also be involved in supervising students, applying for grants, project management and coordinating national and international collaborations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Experience in writing research applications and ability to independently secure grants.
  • Experience in study design and large-scale data management of studies with multiple data modalities including genetic data, molecular data, Swedish patient registry data and drug data.
  • Previous experience of several research projects and publications in aging epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology.
  • Previous experience of developing and applying genetic pipelines, such as GWAS, fine-mapping, MR and colocalization to identify novel and repurposing drug targets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of epidemiological methods (such as cohort, emulated target trial), omics and pharmacoepidemiology.
  • Documented experience with statistical programming tools such as R, STATA, SQL, Linux in a HPC environment and the like.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.

  • Experience of supervising students
  • Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences.
