The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) is divided into five departments that conduct research and education in neuroscience, from the molecular level to the societal level. The work at the department is highly integrated with clinical activities and other health-promoting research and education.

Description of the subject area

Health psychology represents a rapidly growing field of research and application that analyzes the relationship between psychological, social, cultural and behavioral factors and its connection to health and disease. At the same time that society is undergoing social and demographic changes, new demands are emerging on our understanding of specific groups and their health conditions. A central development in health psychology is therefore to increase insight into the health challenges that characterize cultural and sexual minorities.

Your mission

You are expected to initiate, lead and promote research and development in the field of health psychology with a particular focus on the health of minorities. You will teach and be responsible for freestanding courses, postgraduate courses and courses in the psychology program as well as supervise students at different levels in the field of health psychology with a focus on methods for analysis of large materials. The department aims to strengthen its international teaching and research profile and therefore you will be expected to teach in both English and Swedish and be involved in ongoing international research collaborations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise and good scientific expertise (see the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet, ref 1-23/2022).

You must have documented experience of international high-quality research in psychology.You must also have documented experience of coordinating and successfully managing research projects, and have obtained significant national and international research grants as principal applicant.

You must also have solid experience of teaching within the field of Health Psychology.

Since the teaching is in English, a good knowledge of this languages is required for the position.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2)

For employment as Professor at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure  are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

Experience of research with a focus on health issues and treatment outcomes in society's minority groups is particularly meritorious and experience of research in epidemiology is meritorious.

As the employment is focused on health issues, it is particularly meritorious to be a licensed psychologist with documented experience of clinical work.

Ongoing national and international research collaborations is meritorious.
