Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Our laboratory is located at the Science for Life Laboratory in the Karolinska Institute campus. SciLifeLab is equiped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and core facilities, and is home to one of the largest sequencing cluster in Europe.

Our group combines experimental and computational work, and aims to develop and apply novel genome-wide techniques to address fundamental biological questions with medical implications. We are especially interested in how subtle variations in gene expression can lead to differential cellular phenotypes and are passionate about RNA biology (http://pelechanolab.com/). You will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment and combine the development of state-of-the art genome-wide approaches with the molecular dissection of fundamental biological problems.

Are you interested in the interphase between metabolism and gene expression? Would you like to contribute to the development of cutting-edge proteomic and genomic technologies?  Come and join us at SciLifeLab.

Your mission

The available postdoctoral position concerns developing and applying novel approaches to study the crosstalk between metabolism and gene expression regulation. The candidate will focus on the development of novel genomic and proteomic methods to disentangle how altered metabolic states shape the regulatory landscape of chromatin at bulk and single-cell level. The candidate will integrate different experimental and computational approaches for the completion of the project, including microscopy, biochemistry, NGS, proteomics and bioinformatics.

The candidate will perform original research in genomics and protomics, and acquire the required experimental and computational skills necessary for the completion of the project. The candidate is expected to communicate the scientific results by writing scientific papers and attending scientific meetings.

The ideal candidate will participate in the general duties of the team and effectively communicate with scientists of very diverse backgrounds in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment. Working language is English.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

In addition to the above requirements for the position:

  • A PhD in Molecular biology, Biotechnology, Genetics or similar field.
  • Experience interpreting biological data and experimentally testing their hypothesis.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology methods such as RNA-Seq, ATAC-seq, Cut&Run/Cut&Tag, cultivation of human and/or animal cells, proteomics, immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry.
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary technology development, and novel and creative thinking.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams.

Meritorious for the position:

  • Previous experience in single-cell multi-omics methods and chromatin biology will be highly considered.
  • Previous experience working on metabolism and/or neuroscience.
  • In the appointment, special weight will be attached to scientific skill of relevance to the project and to previous research experience.
