The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven departments within which both research and teaching are conducted. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. All departments work in close contact with clinics at Karolinska University Hospital.
The research group for molecular cell biology and gene therapy, LABMED, focuses on developing nucleic acid therapies for genetic diseases and is part of the Karolinska ATMP center. We have a broad competence within the group and collaborate with other researchers within KI, nationally and internationally.
We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed-term position for 2 years (full-time).
The project is focused on developing nucleic acid-based therapeutic strategies for a range of neurological diseases with a focus on Friedreich's ataxia and Huntington's disease. Our goal is to develop therapeutic oligonucleotides to be used in diseases caused by tandem repeat expansion. As a postdoc, you are expected to actively drive the project forward, including planning and evaluation of experiments and results.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We are looking for a PhD in medical science with extensive experience in cell culture, transfection of oligonucleotides and the use of molecular biology techniques. You must be able to plan activities independently in collaboration with other researchers. Experience of gene therapy in tandem repeat diseases and vector production is an advantage.
As a person, we would like you to be thorough, independent and have analytical skills. You should also be structured and able to work in a team.
In this recruitment, we place great importance on personal characteristics.
