The Rydén and Mejhert lab aims to understand how alterations in human white adipocyte function are related to cardiometabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and coronary sclerosis. Our group consists of 15-20 members (senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD/master students, and technical staff) and has all the necessary infrastructure to conduct translational research including a fully equipped preclinical laboratory at NEO and a clinical research unit at the Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge.
We have incubated human adipocytes with different hormones, fractionated them and studied the protein composition of these samples using mass spectrometry. By applying machine learning algorithms to the resulting dataset, we have mapped organellar protein translocation events induced by these hormones. Our studies provide new insights into subcellular signalling cascades of relevance to metabolic diseases, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. The outlined project is ongoing, but important tasks such as endogenous tagging using Cas9-mediated engineering in mesenchymal stem cells, remain to be completed. We are therefore searching for a research assistant to lead our gene editing efforts. The goal is to tag relevant proteins with fluorophores and monitor translocation events using live cell imaging. The position is for six months but can be extended by an additional six months pending the completion of the project.
The person appointed should have a master’s degree or equivalent. Experience in common cell and molecular biology approaches such as cloning, FACS and confocal microscopy are meritorious. It is a strength if the applicant has experience in coding. It is expected that the candidate should be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently. Good knowledge in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.
