The research group of Jonas Muhr and Johan Holmberg are studying how stem cells are regulated in the brain and its derived tumours. One important focus of their research is to examine molecular mechanisms preventing stem cells from contributing to tumour growth. In addition, the groups have a focus on epigenetic control of differentiated neuronal identity.
The successful candidate will work together with members of the research group and examine how tumour suppressors can prevent tumour growth. The work will include molecular analyses of key regulatory networks as well as studies of tumour stem cells both in vitro and in relevant tumour models in mice. Furthermore, the research will include single nuclei analysis of the transcriptomes and epigenomes of CNS neurons. The Research Specialist will perform experiments with animals, cells and in vitro to address the role of long-term transcriptional repression for maintaining cellular identity and function in differentiated dopaminergic and serotonergic neurons of the CNS.
Work tasks will include but not be limited to designing, performing and analyzing experiments in collaboration with the supervisors. However, the applicant is expected to exhibit a high level of autonomy and be able to independently and responsibly address the scientific questions of the project.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated person. A successful candidate for this position should have a broad knowledge base in molecular biology and cell biology. Previous experience involving animal experiments, cells, sorting of nuclei, chromatin extraction, single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis, confocal microscopy, and imaging is meriting. The candidate must have a PhD, or equivalent, in stem cell biology, developmental biology, cancer biology, or equivalent and has typically published significant scientific articles relating to this area of research. In addition, the applicant should have at least three years of experience as a post-doctoral researcher within a similar discipline.
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
