Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Your mission

The ultimate goal is to develop novel treatment strategies and biomarkers for Alzheimer disease. To reach this goal we will elucidate the pathological pathways that lead to Alzheimer disease. Proteins and glycans of interest will be enriched by affinity purification from human brain tissue, blood samples and cerebrospinal fluid as well as from mouse models and neuronal cultures. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) will be used to identify proteins, glycosylation sites and glycans involved in the pathogenesis. Our novel findings will be used to develop new specific biomarkers for precision medicine. Finally, molecules and delivery systems - for instance nanoparticles targeting the pathogenic pathways - will be developed.

We are searching for a postdoc for temporary employment for two years.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc that is well acquainted with analytical chemistry, protein chemistry and glycobiology as well as biochemical, and cell biological techniques. Documented experience in analyzing biological samples with LC-MS/MS is required. Previous experience in affinity purification and good analytical and statistical skills, as well as handling of human samples, is meritorious. Experience in primary cell culturing, advanced microscopic techniques, studies on protein trafficking, nanodelivery and neuroscience is also meritorious.

Good teamwork skills, the ability to work independently, and very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken, are required.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
