The Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS) conducts education at undergraduate and advanced level as well as PhD level and internationally recognized research with a focus on common diseases and injuries. The aim of all activities is to improve people's health.

Description of the subject area

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated teacher and researcher in the field of nursing and medical care with a focus on perioperative nursing. The subject area deals with issues of health and social care in connection with human health and illness in connection with a surgical procedure or intervention. The Specialist Nursing Program in Theatre Care is one of four specialist nursing programs at KI SÖS and the development of collaboration is ongoing.

Your mission

You will be responsible for parts of the education in specialist nursing programs, primarily in operating theatre care but also other areas (e.g. scientific aspects) in nursing at the advanced level. You are also expected to conduct clinical/educational research in perioperative care and nursing. An important part of your work will be to develop collaboration within and between the courses and programs at the advanced level at KI SÖS and with other higher education institutions in relevant specialist areas, both nationally and internationally. 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer with a focus on education and research, in addition to holding a PhD or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise and good scientific expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

You must have experience of teaching nursing education at undergraduate and/or advanced level. You must also have solid experience of clinical work as an operating theatre nurse.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, or have gained equivalent competence, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

The position requires good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English (at least equivalent to level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, GERS) as the teaching and examination are conducted in both Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (2), pedagogical expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that you have demonstrated

  • Documented good leadership and organizational skills
  • obtained docentship or equivalent docentship competence
  • specialist nursing education in surgical care, at Karolinska Institutet or another higher education institution or related education
