Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of laboratory medicine. The department is engaged in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. It is one of the largest educational institutions at Karolinska Institutet.

Description of the subject area

The EL Andaloussi lab's focus is on developing technologies to exploit the medical applications of extracellular vesicles (EVs). This includes engineering EVs for therapeutic drug delivery and analyzing EVs in blood plasma to detect disease. EVs represent a unique opportunity for molecular diagnostics as they are released by all cells and carry the contents and express surface proteins of their cell of origin. Our research program involves developing new and innovative technologies to separate and analyze plasma-borne EVs. To achieve this, we optimize methods to enrich EVs from small blood volumes and to purify defined populations derived from specific cell types. To analyze the diagnostic information in EVs, we focus on multi-parameter methods such as nucleic acid sequencing and proteomics. Thus, our research platform offers a unique opportunity to discover clinically relevant methods for EV-based molecular diagnostics.

Your mission

As a research specialist, you will coordinate the development and clinical implementation of methods for extracellular vesicle purification and analysis of their content. Your tasks will be to assist in the preparation of ethical approvals, address regulatory barriers and assist in the optimization and characterization of the methods developed for EV enrichment. Most of the work will be performed with clinical samples obtained through various collaborations with Karolinska University Hospital. The projects will be highly innovative and require up-to-date knowledge in the field as well as an excellent ability to integrate and apply advanced technologies to develop innovative technical methods. In your role as a researcher, you will work hands-on in the laboratory, interpret and write legal documentation, participate in the conception and design of new projects and take on supervisory responsibilities.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Experience in the development and optimization of tests
