The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Research at the department is focused on how different societal and individual factors affect population health, and to develop and evaluate structural and individual-oriented interventions. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department has 12 research groups, about 110 PhD students and about 140 employees.

This position is located in the research group Epidemiology of Psychiatric Conditions, Substance use and Social environment (EPiCSS). The aim of EPiCSS is to develop early interventions and prevent mental illness, including substance use, by understanding risk and protective factors.

Your mission

We are looking for a postdoc to the research group EPiCSS with an interest in and expertise in psychiatric epidemiology, to work within a FORTE-financed project focusing on how migration affects compulsory psychiatric care using regional and national registers.

The aim is to study why compulsory psychiatric care is more common amongst migrants than the Swedish-born population and examine possible explanations as to why it differs. This will be done using register based epidemiology.

The main task is the production of scientific articles for publication. The applicant is expected to plan and perform statistical analyzes, present at conferences and participate in writing research applications. Furthermore, the applicant is expected to conduct some teaching and supervision.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for a motivated researcher with a background in and knowledge of register based psychiatric epidemiological research. Furthermore, very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. Good statistics skills (SAS / Stata / SPSS) are also a requirement. The applicant must have experience in independently analyzing large databases. Of importance is the applicant's prior scientific publication. Experience in registry research, and research in psychiatric epidemiology and research of migration and knowledge in the Swedish health care system will be considered an advantage. The applicant should be collaborative and have good communication skills.
