Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The mission at the Unit of Systems Toxicology is to perform top quality research to understand how different environmental exposures affect human wellbeing, focusing on the impact of chemicals and microbes on epithelial barrier function and immunity, and on development. We work with experimental and bioinformatics models and methods, including cells, tissues, zebrafish, and different omics analysis. We are now recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher who will work with Associate Professor Emma Wincent on zebrafish-based research related to the impact of chemicals on tissue repair and metabolic function, as part of projects funded by the Swedish research council FORMAS and EU-HORIZON.

Your mission

The project is centered upon identifying the impact of different chemicals, both naturally formed and man-made on tissue repair, stem cell differentiation, inflammatory signaling, metabolic function and growth/development. This will be performed using a range of zebrafish models and methods, working with embryonic life stages up to adulthood. The expected starting date is June 2024, and the position is temporary for 3 years.

Your profile

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated and independent individual. Requirements for the position include a doctoral degree in areas related to tissue damage signaling and repair, and immunity. Hands-on advanced experience of working with zebrafish at different life stages, including embryonic, larval and adult, as experimental models, is required, as well as experience in generating novel zebrafish strains using different techniques including the Tol2-mediated and GAL4-UAS systems for transgenesis.  In addition to working with zebrafish, hands-on experience working with bioinformatics analysis, especially RNAseq and metabolomics, is required, and experience in integration of multiple OMICS layers is considered advantageous, as well as hands-on experience working with rodent animal models. Additional methods for which experience is required include morphological assessment of zebrafish, microscopy (brightfield and fluorescence), FACS, and gene expression analysis.

The candidate must be able to work within a team of scientists from different disciplines and nationalities, and fluency in English, both written and oral, is a requirement. The position also entails teaching and student supervision. Documented experience in supervision of master student or doctoral students is therefore a requirement.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
