Asthma is among the most common chronic diseases with an estimated 339 million cases worldwide, resulting in over 250,000 deaths each year. A major challenge is that “asthma” is an umbrella diagnosis for obstructive airway diseases with variable clinical presentations (phenotypes) and distinct mechanistic pathways (endotypes). Research in the Unit of Integrative Metabolomics in the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is focused on identifying the fundamental biochemical dysregulations (metabotypes) associated with the etiology and pathophysiology of asthma. The successful candidate will fill an important role in our efforts to improve quality of life for individuals with asthma.

Your Role

As research engineer in the Unit of Integrative Metabolomics in the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) your main responsibilities will include:

  • Perform bioanalysis using LC-MS/MS.
  • Supervise the routine operation of the laboratory.
  • Write and/or review analytical method descriptions and laboratory SOP´s.
  • Train and mentor team members on equipment, routines, and safety.
  • Responsibility for maintaining the laboratory LC-MS/MS methods.
  • Responsibility for updating the laboratory database of chemicals (KLARA).
    Order laboratory supplies.
  • Responsibility for sample organization and data archival.
  • The role of process owner of the laboratory LC-MS/MS methods.

Your profile

The successful candidate will fulfill the following qualifications:

  • University degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering or similar subject.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of working with LC-MS/MS instrumentation and bioanalysis.
  • Practical experience of analytical method development.
  • Experience of research project coordination or similar leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ability to communicate with laboratory members and project team members.
  • Experience of writing research publications is a merit.
  • Previous knowledge of qualification and validation of analytical methods is a merit.
  • A PhD in relevant discipline is a merit.
  • Knowledge in Swedish is a merit.
