The Integrative Physiology research group at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet is seeking up to a highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join the group of Professors Anna Krook and Juleen R. Zierath. The research is focused on translational studies on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of physical exercise on glucose and lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle. The candidate will join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways that contribute to exercise-mediated changes of insulin resistance in the context of type 2 diabetes.
The candidate will work on the regulation of insulin sensitivity specifically in skeletal muscle and but also on other organs and on a whole-body level using several model systems. Projects cover disease mechanisms as well as protocol and assay development. You may also be involved in clinical intervention trials.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is someone who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Expertise and research experience in the study of cellular metabolism is desired. This included expertise in cell and molecular biology. Experience from human exercise interventions is a bonus, and research experience from clinical studies and from analysis of human samples is also valuable. Previous work with model systems to study metabolism is also a merit. The candidate must be fluent in English, have excellent writing skills and be able to take the lead on projects.
