The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The announced position is part of a research group led by Assistant Professor Jiayao Lei, which focuses on preventing human papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases through comprehensive evaluation of HPV vaccination and screening programs. You will play a key role in projects on risk prediction for HPV-related diseases and modeling the impact of preventive programs using the Swedish National Cervical Screening Registry as well as numerous other nationwide registers.

You will work closely with Dr. Lei, as well as Prof. Joakim Dillner at the Center for Cervical Cancer Elimination at KI and Karolinska University Hospital.   

Your mission

You will take part in planning and conducting research studies, including data management, data analyses and manuscript writing. The core activity will be the production of research articles for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and grant applications, but you will also be involved in student supervision, teaching, and dissemination of research findings through conferences.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Your eligibility will be further evaluated based on the following requirements:

  • Have a PhD in biostatistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology, computer science or related subjects.
  • Being able to extract, manage and analyze large data materials is required.
  • Have conducted research, including documented published research articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journal is required.
  • Advanced programming skills in SAS, R, Python or STATA are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Knowledge and experience in supervised learning, prediction modelling or infectious diseases modelling are meritorious.
  • Prior experience in professional analysis of register data/health electronic records are meritorious.
