Description of the subject area

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic research specialist interested in studying the structural cell biology and biochemistry of the mitochondrial RNA maturation process and mitochondrial genome separation. The project is part of a multi-disciplinary collaboration financed by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation

Your mission

The project aims to characterize the mitochondrial RNA maturation process and mitochondrial genome separation.

Main techniques involved are electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cell biology and biochemistry. We have ample access to Karolinska Institutet’s 3D-EM facility that currently features a Krios G3i with a Bioquantum K3, an Aquilos2 cryo-FIB-SEM, a Leica SP8 cryo-confocal, a Talos 120C G2 and a range of sample preparation equipment.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Your profile

We are looking for highly motivated, independent, and driven candidates. The successful applicant shall have extensive documented experience in structural biology (~4 years post-PhD) using cryo-EM and been a co-author on several publications (>4) in reputable journals using single-particle analysis techniques. Furthermore, the successful candidate shall have extensive RNA/RNA-protein biochemistry experience. A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects is required, as are good spoken and written English communication skills.
