At the Institute for Environmental Medicine (IMM), research is conducted in toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, environmental and occupational medicine. IMM also acts as a scientific advisor to authorities in the field of environmental medicine, and IMM researchers participate in national and international expert groups that conduct risk assessments or develop guidelines.
The research at IMM's Metals and Health unit in Maria Kippler's research group revolves around environmental pollutants, especially toxic metals, and related health effects. We mainly focus on exposures early in life because they can affect both children's health and development as well as the risk of diseases later in life. For more information, visit: https://ki.se/imm/enheten-for-metaller-halsa. We are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow with competence in nutrition. The employment is temporary for two years.
We are looking for a creative and goal-oriented candidate to conduct research focusing on exposure to mixtures of toxic and essential dietary trace elements early in life and child development, particularly child growth. The research will be carried out by combining data from two different studies concerning young children's exposure to various trace elements via diet. The exposure to various trace elements has been determined through measurements in biological samples, primarily using ICPMS. We will examine the relationship between the levels of various trace elements and the children's diet to identify the main dietary sources. Relationships between different trace elements and children's growth will be evaluated using advanced statistical methods, specific for evaluations of mixtures of chemicals. The research is conducted in collaboration with several other Swedish universities and authorities. The position will also include participation in teaching and supervision of bachelor's and master's students.
