At the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), research is conducted in toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, environmental and occupational medicine. IMM also acts as a scientific advisor to authorities in the field of environmental medicine, and IMM researchers participate in national and international expert groups that conduct risk assessments or develop guidelines.

The research at IMM's Metals and Health unit in Maria Kippler's research group revolves around environmental pollutants, especially toxic metals, and related health effects. We mainly focus on exposures early in life because they can affect both children's health and development as well as the risk of diseases later in life.
