At the Nutritional Neuroscience Group within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, we study the perceptual experiences associated with food consumption. Our goal is to understand the cortical processes that drive acquisition of new flavor preferences, their interactions with metabolic feedback, and their role in appetite regulation. We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team!
As a postdoc in our group, you will study the formation and retrieval of food flavor preferences, and how they are supported by the coding mechanisms and connectivity structure of the human brain. This position is part of an ERC funded project which builds on previous work from our group (see eg. 1 and 2). Specifically, you will develop experimental designs that manipulate the metabolic impact of food stimuli and measure and compare metabolic markers associated with these manipulations. You will relate the results to behavioral and functional anatomical outcomes, and prepare the results of your studies for publication. You will be trained to act as a liaison between collaborators in cognitive neuroscience and nutrition, and will be encouraged to develop new projects at the intersection of nutrition and cognitive neuroscience according to your own interests.
The position is for two years, with the possibility for extension.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We are looking for a postdoc with a background in cognitive neuroscience of perception and/or motivation and a keen interest in the neuroscience of human nutrition. Candidates are expected to have strong analytical skills, and previous experience with acquisition and analysis of behavioral and functional neuroimaging data. Documented prior experience with data modelling approaches, multivariate analyses, and/or machine learning are desirable. Prior experience in working with blood plasma assays (OLINK, Mass spectrometry-based methods, ELISA-based methods) is also a merit. The position requires strong programming skills in at least one relevant programming language (e. g. R, Python, Matlab).
English is the main language of communication in the research group; therefore, strong written and spoken English skills are required. You must have experience in academic writing and publishing your work. We are looking for an individual who shows initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Good communication skills for interactions with collaborators and participants are expected. Furthermore, we attach great importance to personal suitability.
