Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) KI node is currently seeking a versatile biologist skilled in assay development, automation and small-molecule screening who will help CBCS in its mission of identifying, developing, and optimizing high-quality small molecule tool compounds for academic researchers. At CBCS you will work closely in a team of biologists and medicinal chemists within a vibrant research community, to enable chemical biology and drug discovery innovations.

Your mission

CBCS is a Swedish Research Council funded infrastructure of national interest with nodes at Karolinska Institutet, Umeå, Lund, Uppsala, Linköping and Gothenburg Universities. CBCS (www.CBCS.se) has been in operation since 2010 and is an infrastructure for chemical biology at Science for Life Laboratory (www.scilifelab.se). CBCS offers services for the identification of chemical tools (bioactive small molecules) for all fields of life sciences. The infrastructure offers collaborative service and guidance within assay development, small-molecule screening and hit to chemical probe optimization. Additional service offerings in small-molecule profiling, including Cell Painting, and screening in primary and complex disease models.

The job will include establishment of a broad spectrum of assays including cell-based and biochemical high-throughput and high-content assays, followed by subsequent small molecule screening campaigns, data analysis and extensive follow-up utilizing biophysical methods. You will be responsible for managing projects in close collaboration with researchers from of diverse backgrounds and delivering high-quality data.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish degree of doctor. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

Assessment criteria

To be considered for this position, you should have minimum 5 years of experience in academic screening centres and a good track record of publications. Proficiency in 1536-well format assay development, robotic liquid handlers, automated instrumentation, and biophysical methods is required. You should also have a strong passion for daily experimental work and an aptitude for analysing, managing, interpreting, and reporting high-quality screening data. Additionally, you should have a demonstrated ability to use novel bioassays to solve complex biological problems.

The successful candidate must have a "staff scientist" mindset, be service-minded, and be dedicated to high-quality and reproducible data production. You should possess very good interpersonal and cooperation skills, enjoy collaborative science, be flexible, and be capable of working independently in a structured and efficient way. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are essential, as well as documentation skills, and experience with electronic lab notebooks is merited.
