Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics perform research on different aspects of Alzheimer’s disease from molecules to patients. Our research group (PI: Linus Jönsson) investigates health economic aspects of neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The group works in an inspiring and interactive research environment in Bioclinicum, KI- Campus Solna and has on-going collaborative projects with national and international research groups.

Your mission

A major focus for the scholarship will be to contribute to the research of the group. This may include analysis of collected data from registries or prospective surveys, writing of reports and scientific publications, and presentations at internal and external meetings and conferences.

Your profile

The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and be able to work in a team. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to have good knowledge and expertise in health economics and outcomes research, and a solid understanding of health care systems from a background in medicine, pharmacy or other clinical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be admitted to and registered in Ladok at master’s program in health economics, policy and management, or equal at KI or at a university with which KI collaborates.

These scholarships aim to provide students at the undergraduate or graduate level with early practical experience of research work, in order to strengthen the link between education and research and encourage future studies at the doctoral level.

The scholarships can be granted either for studies in an existing course or for a shorter period of practical research experience (documented in an individual study plan/research plan) for admitted students at the undergraduate or graduate level. The scholarships may be awarded for up to 12 months (divided into a maximum of four courses/periods) during the study period. Decisions on scholarships may be made for a maximum of six months at a time.

The scholarships may be granted only to:

  • persons who have been admitted (and registered in Ladok) to KI to study at the undergraduate or graduate level,
  • persons who are admitted (and registered) to undergraduate or graduate level programs at a university with which KI collaborates.

Type of scholarship

The scholarship is for three months during 2023-2024. The amount is tax free.
