The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) works in several strategic areas that are important for improving human health. We focus on research, development and education in medical education, ethics, informatics, medical management, statistics and prevention. It is an exciting work environment where research and education are in focus.

We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher (100%) to conduct research in the field of the development and adaptation of mental health promotion interventions. In particular we are looking for someone that will design and coordinate research activities related to the adaptation of the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program for minority groups in Sweden. MHFA is a training program intended for the general public. The idea behind the training program is similar to physical first aid training: To provide the student with the knowledge that allows him or her to step in and provide first aid until the person receives professional help.

Your mission

You will be working at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) as part of an international team that is focused on research in the field of mental health and suicide prevention. As a postdoc you will design the protocols of the studies required by these projects, obtain the required ethical approvals, supervise their implementation, analyse qualitative and quantitative data and lead the preparation of manuscripts reporting the findings. You will also offer scientific support and collaborate in work related to these projects such as participation and presentations in the technical project meetings, writing reports on the progress of the ongoing projects, as well as assisting in project and financial management.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for those who have:

  • A doctorate in areas relevant to the project, such as mental health, youth studies, lifestyles
  • Documented experience in the field of health promotion concerning minority groups and youth.
  • Experience in the planning and executing of qualitative studies, including qualitative data analysis and the use of participatory research methods.
  • Experience in coordinating and administering research projects.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in both Swedish and English.
  • Documented experience using NVivo.

 

It is an advantage if you have the following skills:

  • A great interest in the research area of mental health promotion and prevention of suicide
  • An interdisciplinary background including anthropology, ethnology, and health sciences
  • Experience of working with minority groups
  • Experience of collaboration within international research teams
  • Being able to work independently on research data
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical methods in qualitative research
  • Previous experience with the Mental Health First Aid training program
