At the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC), the division of Paediatrics, there are excellent opportunities to conduct leading and high-quality research in paediatrics.

In addition, we annually hold four courses in paediatrics in the medical program semester 10 and two student-selected courses in semester 11. Research, teaching and clinic are closely geographically integrated, which provides very good conditions for creating effective networks.

Description of the subject area

Paediatrics, i.e. child and adolescent medicine, is a broad specialty with several subspecialist areas within Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital. The specialty deals with all medical health problems from the newborn period to the age of 18. Within the division of Paediatrics, CLINTEC, clinical, translational and epidemiological research is carried out within the subspecialty areas that characterize the medical activities of Astrid Lindgren's Children's Hospital (ALB) at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, such as pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, pediatric nephrology, pediatric hematology, neonatology, emergency pediatrics , pediatric neurology, pediatric obesity, pediatric allergology, pediatric pulmonary medicine, as well as children with HIV infection and cystic fibrosis.

Your mission

We are looking for you who is a specialist in paediatrics with an academic and clinical focus within one of the sub-specialist areas mentioned above. You will carry out research, supervise doctoral students, medical students and future paediatricians. You will also drive and administer the development of the division, as well as support the existing course management in the transition to the new medical program's paediatric courses.

Eligibility requirements

Eligible to be employed as a professor with a focus on research is someone who has demonstrated very good pedagogical skills and excellent scientific skills as well as clinical skills. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet)

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

The employment will be combined with clinical employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in Paediatrics or one of its subspecialties at Astrid Lindgren's Children's Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, and therefore you must hold a Swedish medical license as well as a specialist certificate in Paediatric or any of its subspecialties and meet the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for the practice of the medical profession in Sweden.

As the position involves clinical employment, in addition to English, you must possess knowledge and skills in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(GERS).

Assessment criteria

The position focuses on research. For this position, merits will be weighted as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2) and clinical skills (2).
