Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join us in developing education of the highest quality

The Developmental and Translational Neurobiology research group, headed by Dr. Cristiana Cruceanu, studies molecular mechanisms of environmental exposures shaping early human development, with a focus on neurodevelopment. The overarching aim is to understand the long-term outcomes of these exposures on mental health. We use state-of-the-art in-vitro cell culture models of the brain and placenta, in order to model and understand early human development. The exposures at the forefront of our interest are stress hormones, psychotropic medications and inflammatory agents, given their interconnected mechanisms of action and relevance in neuropsychiatric phenotypes. Our work aims to improve our understanding of prenatal exposures and inform treatment decisions for stress-related disorders among pregnant women with evidence about the likely outcomes in their developing children. The Cruceanu lab is part of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institute, located at the Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna.

Your mission

We are currently looking to recruit a Research Assistant to use computational analyses to investigate the molecular mechanisms associated with stress-related psychiatric disorders and their treatments. The project will involve the analysis of multimodal high-throughput genomic data from multiple tissues (ex-vivo and in-vitro brain and placenta), specifically single-cell RNA-seq and single-cell ATAC-seq.

Your profile

Suitable candidates must have significant experience working with the analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies. Advanced computational skills and knowledge of R or Python is a requirement. Previous hands-on experience with the analysis of single-cell data (10x Genomics) or bulk sequencing datasets (RNA or protein) is a plus. In addition, the ideal candidate should possess experience with Linux-based servers and management of high-performance clusters. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating and collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Qualified to be employed as a research assistant is one who has obtained at least a Bachelor’s degree in computational biology, neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, or any related field. It is considered as an advantage if you already hold a Master’s degree.

Fluent written and spoken English is required, and knowledge of Swedish would be plus. Above all, we will evaluate highly the ability of the candidate to work independently while also being a team player who can collaborate and contribute positively to various ongoing projects. The Cruceanu laboratory is strongly committed to equity, diversity and inclusiveness, and encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply.
