Christian Göritz’s group is studying fibrotic scar formation in the central nervous system to develop new therapies for spinal cord and brain injuries.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Senior Lab Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for efficiently managing the laboratory operations and supporting our research group in conducting experiments. Your primary duties will include coordinating the procurement and inventory management of experimental materials and reagents, ensuring proper storage and handling of chemicals, managing chemical and biological waste, and maintaining meticulous records. You will also be involved in working with various cell and molecular biology techniques, as well as animal models.

As the  Senior Lab Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the animal colony, including breeding, genotyping, and archiving. You will also perform surgeries on small rodents, particularly CNS injury models such as spinal cord injuries, and providing pre- and post-operative care. Additionally, you will be perform tissue preparation and analysis using advanced methods such as in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, and single-cell gene expression analysis.

Collaboration is key in our research group, and you will work closely with other team members. You will contribute to the supervision of master students, PhD students, and postdocs, guiding them in laboratory routines and protocols. It will be your responsibility to introduce and teach new molecular biological methods to the group. Furthermore, you will actively participate in the group's research activities, conducting your own projects within the group's research area. This will involve writing scientific manuscripts, preparing application documents, and applying for ethical permits.

In addition to laboratory management and research responsibilities, you will be involved in coordinating research networks associated with our working group. This will include organizing meetings and conferences, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the scientific community.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is dedicated to their work and possesses excellent collaboration and communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, taking ownership of their responsibilities and displaying a proactive attitude.

Essential qualifications for this position include:

  • A PhD in a relevant field
  • Strong knowledge of fibrotic cell and tissue changes, particularly related to diseases and injuries of the central nervous system.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biological techniques related to the field.
  • Proficiency in working with laboratory animals, with an advantage given to those experienced in CNS/spinal cord injury models, including surgical interventions and pre- and post-operative care. FELASA C certification is required. 
  • Experience with RNA expression analysis, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy is highly desirable. 
  • Proficiency in chemical and biological risk assessment, application processes for ethical and work environment-related permits, and order procedures.
  • Familiarity with working with databases
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Swedish

Additional qualifications that will be considered advantageous:

  • Previous experience in organizing scientific meetings and conferences
  • Supervisory experience
  • Personal qualities such as flexibility, cooperation, and problem-solving abilities
