The Mechanisms of Social Behavior lab at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden is seeking one highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Led by Björn Lindström and funded by the European Research Council and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, we are developing a new framework for understanding the psychological, neural, and computational mechanisms of social learning, social transmission and cultural evolution.
Our interdisciplinary, multi-methods approach combines behavioral experiments, computational (RL/cognitive) modelling and multi-agent simulations, brain imaging (fMRI), social networks, and analyses of online data. We offer a dynamic, international research environment where you can contribute to cutting edge research at the highest international level. The position is for a limited period of 2 years (with the possibility of extension).
As a postdoctoral fellow in the group, you will lead new projects that aim to uncover the mechanisms underlying human social learning, and how these mechanisms contribute to collective, societal-level outcomes (e.g., spread of false news, cultural evolution).
In this role, you will work at the forefront of research in this field, developing novel empirical and computational models to understand social learning. You will have the opportunity to develop your own research ideas within the areas of social learning and cultural evolution. Your responsibilities will include the design and implementation of experiments (in person and/or online), development/analysis of computational models, data analysis, and dissemination of the results.
We have access to state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI scanners at the Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University Brain Imaging Center (SUBIC).
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will be part of a successful and well-funded research group, surrounded by senior and junior researchers. Our research group collaborates with other groups at the department and a number of prominent research groups around the world, providing opportunities for international exchanges.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We are looking for a talented, innovative, and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD in psychology or cognitive science. The ideal candidate will have documented experience in cultural evolution research (ideally with expertise related to the impact of technical reasoning on cultural evolutionary processes), brain-imaging (fMRI), and agent-based modeling.
Excellent academic merits, including publications in high-quality international scientific journals, is required. Fluency in English is also a requirement.
Personal skills and suitability will be considered when filling the position.
