In the research group of Christian Rück and John Wallerts team we work to improve the life of individuals with psychiatric conditions through understanding their genesis and developing treatments. A core theme of our research is to develop more accurate prediction models for both the risk of, and also consequences of, psychiatric conditions. We work in an interdisciplinary and clinically integrated research environment with over 30 group members at Karolinska Flemingsberg where you have the possibility and ambition to contribute to quality research at international top-level. Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher, you are offered work and career development within three highly relevant research projects, several experienced supervisors, and the opportunity to work on world-leading registry- and genetic research answering clinically relevant research questions. You will be working with study design, statistical modeling and manuscript writing in the three different projects. In these projects you will collaborate with colleagues at Oxford University, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and national partners.

Research project 1 is a registry study focusing on risk factors for suicide among psychiatric patients that have experienced compulsive mental care. There is ample possibility to both apply causal inference methods with observational data and to construct instruments that predict risk based on risk factors. There is also an opportunity to apply more advanced predictive modelling appropriate for large-scale observational data. The work is conducted exclusively with a linked nationalwide database curated by the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) at KI. In research project 2, you will be working with multimodal data in a nationwide suicide cohort with the purpose of improving present prediction of suicide aiming to derive and validate better risk models for suicide in the total population. Research project 3 also involves multimodal data with the purpose of identifying clinical, registry-based and genetic predictors of short-term and long-term outcomes after treatment with internet-based CBT. Projects 2 and 3 provides the opportunity to apply both well-established statistical modeling and newer machine learning methodology.

All projects are well funded but we also encourage and support you to apply for additional research grants so that you can develop your own line of research based on the projects.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

You are required to be a trained epidemiologist or biostatistician. The position demands that you are experienced and effective when you work in R, Stata, SAS, Python or similar software. You are required to possess experience with registry-based research and epidemiological methods. You are proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. In addition to aforementioned requirements it is of merit to have prior experience with genetic data and applied machine learning. You are a team player, who is expected to be generous with your expertise within the team and also for the larger research group and you enjoy teaching and supervising younger researchers. There are not any requirement to have prior experience with psychiatric research.
