The position regards experimental research in model animal that will be conducted in Dr. Marie Carlén’s research group, the department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet. The hired person will work in a team of lab members in a project investigating the mechanism underlying working memory (WM) in the mouse prefrontal cortex (PFC). The project encompasses a range of technologies and analysis signifying systems neuroscience.

Your mission

The person we are seeking to hire will work in close collaboration with our lab members in a project investigating WM. The hired person will be conducting stereotaxic surgeries, behavioral training of head-fixed mice in a task developed in the lab and also high-density extracellular recordings (acquisition, preprocessing, spike sorting and analysis). The work also included tissue harvesting and postprocessing, including clearing, sectioning, staining, and confocal imaging and analysis of the acquired data. The hired person will in addition maintain involved mouse colonies and perform genotyping.

Your profile

We are seeking a person with a master’s degree within the field of neuroscience and previous experience of lab work in a basic neuroscience setting. You are expected to have experience of and be comfortable with handling mice (behavioral training, surgery, perfusion etc) and to independently perform confocal microscopy and image analysis. Experience of electrophysiology using high-density probes is meriting, as are good programming skills (Matlab, Python, R, Julia). Certification for animal work in accordance.
