The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR)

Karolinska Institutet and five other Swedish Universities are building a National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) with the ultimate scope to facilitate aging research in Sweden, foster international collaboration, and enhance the quality and impact of scientific research. Ultimately, by empowering aging research in Sweden, NEAR will contribute to identifying sustainable intervention strategies that will help to achieve better health and care for elderly people. NEAR consists of 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden.

Your mission

The main focus of this position is to assist NEAR users in the delivery of statistical/epidemiologic support to research projects. Primary job duties include:

1) Works as a member of a research team/study team to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies;

2) Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data;

3) Processes large amounts of data for statistical modelling and graphic analysis;

4) consolidate the data of the different cohorts included in NEAR and ensure they are comparable, using harmonized methodology;

5) Participate in the preparation of written and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the results and provides conclusions and recommendations.

We are looking for you who have the required background and the capability to work in a cross-disciplinary team, to be independent and able to take initiatives as well as to find solutions. The applicant must also possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities. The position is employment until further notice.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field.
  • Work experience in data analysis preferably in the aging research field.
  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, S-plus).
  • Demonstrated programming skills with proficiency in R.
  • Experience in data harmonization process of multiple datasets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with researcher having differing quantitative and clinical backgrounds.
  • Interest in professional development in statistics is appreciated.
