The position is for lab (experimental) based research and the research assistant will be working with Dr. Amit Kumar in the Translational Molecular Imaging Lab of Professor Agneta Nordberg which consists of multi-disciplinary team of experienced researchers and clinicians working at the forefront of translational dementia research. The research group has a translational/mechanistic approach using both in vitro and in vivo molecular brain imaging techniques, and our aim is to explore the complex pathophysiological features of neurodegenerative diseases, with a strong focus on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) but also other neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s disease (PD), FTD, PSP, and CBD), to develop novel diagnostic markers and drug targets for early intervention in disease pathophysiology.
We are inviting applications for the position of research assistant in translational research with a strong focus on understanding the role of different pathological hallmarks (Amyloid, Tau, astrocytes, microglia, synaptic loss and other biomarkers) in the pathogenesis of AD, PD, and other dementia disorders. The position will give you the opportunity to work on translational/clinically relevant projects aligned with the broad goals of the research group.
The duties will involve day-to-day lab work, help with lab administration tasks, compilation of data and help in manuscripts writing for publication, participating, and presenting progress updates in internal group meetings, division seminars and journal clubs, and at national/international conferences when required. The position will be 70% research and 30% administration work.
The successful candidate is preferably a MSc graduate (Molecular bioengineering/biotechnology/protein biochemistry/Neuroscience), with a specialization in degenerative disorders, who is looking to gain more experience in translational research with a short-term project.
We are looking for someone who has research and lab experience in the field of neurodegenerative disorders as well as hand on expertise in postmortem brain imaging techniques, human tissue handling, radioactive work, protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, cell culture and other biochemical techniques.
The candidate should be self-motivated, with a strong interest in research, and able to work both independently as well as being a good team player with excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal). The candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented and collaborative, and with an ability to work without requiring extensive training or the need for close supervision. Experience of work/training in international research laboratories and scientific publications are appreciated.
