The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education at the absolute forefront. Presently our department consists of approximately 450 employees. The postdoc will work in Dr. Lars Jakobsson’s group at the Division of Vascular Biology, located in a vibrant environment in a new state-of-the-art research center, Biomedicum, in central Stockholm. Please see Biomedicum Stockholm
The lab and technologies
The Jakobsson lab investigates processes of blood vessel morphogenesis/patterning and function in development and disease, with the aim to develop new therapies. The lab utilizes mouse models of human disease, based on inducible genetic loss- and gain- of-function, lineage tracing, virally mediated manipulation in combination with state-of-the-art confocal live imaging (multi-photon, in vivo and ex vivo). In addition, the environment provides access to drug screening platforms, proteomics, single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. The lab is integrated in a high-performing interactive scientific environment with close contact with the clinic. Selected publications from the lab: Jin et al, Nat. Cell Biol., 2017 Wang et al, Development, 2017; Wang et al, Sci. Rep., 2018; Tual-Chalot et al, Circ. Res., 2020
The candidate
We are looking for a highly motivated, creative, curious and interactive team player with a sharp mind and a passion for understanding biology in depth. Previous engagement in developmental and vascular biology with experience of confocal microscopy and/or image analysis, in vivo experimentation, tissue culture, cell signalling, cloning and bioinformatics would be an advantage. The candidate should be a self-motivated and driven team worker, with good communication skills. A high level of English, spoken and written, is a requirement.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Solna, Biomedicum
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
