Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) announces an opportunity to join the research group of Georgios A. Sotiriou as a research assistant in flame nanoparticle synthesis. The lab has extensive experience in the flame synthesis of nanoparticles and assembly of devices for biomedical applications. The lab’s mission is to develop bionanomaterials, tools and methods for medicine using engineering sciences. The research in this lab is highly multidisciplinary combining expertise from material engineering, bioengineering and health sciences. This allows for the design of bionanomaterials that exhibit the desired functionality in applications ranging from diagnostics (biosensors) to therapeutic interventions.

Your mission

The research assistant is expected to work on flame nanoparticle synthesis and direct nanoparticle deposition surfaces and participate in the lab research environment. Experience in growing bacterial biofilms on such surfaces is needed. The duties include lab work, courses, seminars, and presentation of results at meetings. Other responsibilities include development of methodology and work routines, literature review, statistical analysis, adhering to the lab manual policies and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts.

Your profile

The candidate should have a BSc in Biochemistry and MSc in Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology. Experience in Surface-modifiednanoparticleswithnovel peptides is required. Furthermore, skills including size-exclusion chromatography; surface plasmon resonance; preparation of nanoparticles by ionotropic gelation; chitosan nanoparticles; dynamic light scattering; functionalization chemistry, in vitro studies are required.
