Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage the synergy between experimental and computational approaches to fundamental questions about human cognitive capabilities.  The position is part of a larger project funded by the ERC focusing on a new model of working memory: The Hot-Coal hypothesis of working memory | Hot-Coal WM Project | Fact Sheet | H2020 | CORDIS | European Commission (europa.eu) In particular, the successful applicant will work on the theoretical aspects of these models. For a relevant publication on the experimental side of the project see: Working memory control dynamics follow principles of spatial computing | Nature Communications.

Your mission

The position involves research in computational neuroscience with a focus on cognition. In particular, you are going to build large-scale, recurrent computational network models (RNNs) and simulate relevant experimental paradigms. You are expected to analyse simulation data and perform quantitative as well as qualitative evaluation of the model’s compatibility with heterogeneous experimental data. The position also includes assembling and publication of scientific papers. The position is a full time employment for two years, with the possibility of extension.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills relevant to the project, previous research experience and to the ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary groups. A track record of constructing, simulating and analyzing neural network models is highly meritorious. Publication record in computational neuroscience, and particularly in the context of cognitive function, is meritorious.

Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, as well as scientific writing skills are required.
