Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a motivated postdoc to be part of our research group with a focus on mixture toxicology at the Unit of Biochemical Toxicology, Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM). The position is placed in the research group of Kristian Dreij in a project that aims to determine mutational signatures of environmental complex mixtures to improve the understanding of carcinogenesis.

Your mission

Experimentally determined mutational signatures have provided important insights into the agents and processes underlying the causes of human cancer. Although humans mainly are exposed to complex mixtures of agents which might contribute to cancer development, this research has so far exclusively focused on single mutagens. The overall objective of this project is to determine mutational signatures induced by environmental complex mixtures in human cells, thereby increasing the understanding of the mechanisms and role of mixtures vs single compounds in cancer etiology. This project is conceptually novel and expected to have important consequences on our understanding of mutational signatures and cancer development.

The post doc will primarily use basic cell biology methodologies together with next-generation sequencing to determine mutational signatures and gene expression profiles. The post doc will be responsible for bioinformatic analyses of the sequencing data together with collaborators and NBI Sweden. Other tasks include writing manuscripts and participating in meetings and discussions with partners as well as in teaching. The position is temporary for 2 years, with possibility of extension.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who can work independently and develop his/her own ideas and visions and with a strong drive for a future career in research. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. from an appropriate discipline such as toxicology, cell- or molecular biology with in-depth understanding of cellular signaling and carcinogenesis. A documented background in standard cell biology techniques is required. Documented hands-on experience of data analysis of next-generation sequencing data is required. Advanced understanding and experience of data analysis of whole genome sequencing data is particularly meritorious.

The candidate must be able to work well in a team with researchers from different disciplines, have good collaboration and communication skills and must be able to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing. In addition, personal suitability will be a factor in the selection process.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
