Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A position as a Research Specialist is available in the lab of Pekka Katajisto at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet. The lab is located at Biomedicum, a newly opened research building with excellent infrastructure and world leading research.

Description of the subject area

The lab’s primary focus is on stem cell intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms of tissue renewal and aging. We have previously discovered how cell-to-cell communication between stem cells and their surrounding niche cells influences stem cell fate decisions using mouse models and 3D intestinal organoids. Moreover, we have discovered how stem cell communication influences intestinal tissue regeneration and is declined during aging (Pentinmikko, Nature 2019; Science Advances 2022).

Your mission

As a Research Specialist you will work in projects devoted to questions concerning the membrane traffic of stem cells and their surrounding niche, with focus on the secretory pathway and the Golgi complex.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist who can collaborate, communicate and function well in a team. The following qualifications are required: Experience with intestinal organoids (culturing, manipulations incl. CRISPR gene editing), advanced microscopy skills (confocal, 3-D Electron Microscopy), microcopy-based membrane traffic assays, FACS analysis and experience with genetically modified mouse models. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement. Previous work in the area of intestinal regeneration is a merit.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
